Is spinal meningitis viral?

A meningitis can be caused by either a virus or bacteria. To determine what is the cause of a meningitis, a procedure called Lumbar Puncture, where a small amount of spinal fluid was taken, is done. The resulting fluid will be cultured to find the source of infection.

Meningitis is an inflammation of the meninges in the brain and/or spinal cord and can be viral OR bacterial. Bacterial is far worse and more difficult to treat than viral.

There are two types of spinal meningitis; viral and bacterial. Bacterial is extremely dangerous to get because it is fast moving and has the potential to be deadly.
