A cat is considered to be "skinny" if its bones (ribs, etc) can be easily felt when petting the animal. A vet can help determine a proper weight for your cat, as their are variables, such as whether the cat has been fixed or not, that may affect their weight.

The average cat should weigh between 8 and 10 lbs. You should take the cat to a vet to be examined if this weight range is not achieved by adding or subtracting from your cat's diet, to make sure there is no health problems.

When you take your cat to the Vet's office they weigh her. Ask your cat's Vet if she weighs the proper weight for her size. If you can really feel ribs or your cats backbone then she is probably too skinny. It's good to feel some bone because not feeling any can indicate overweight cat, but she shouldn't be bony.

Normally, a good and a healthy male cat should weigh between 9 and 12 lbs whereas a fit female cat should weigh between 7 and 10 lbs.
