Is milk and cereal nutritious?

It's the only thing my son will eat in the morning before school.

Answer by  mannersandsuch (1796)

It depends on the type of cereal. It would be great if he was also eating fruit and dairy and a protein but there are tons of needed vitamins that he can get in his cereal. Pick a healthy cereal without too much sugar that is whole grain and is fortified.

I should think so. Milk has protein and many cereals are high in fiber. READ the labels at the store and don't get cereal full of sugars or sodium, etc. And, use a skim milk for extra health benefits.

The cereal sold in supermarkets, even the stuff sold in health food stores, is over-processed and void of nutrition. If not for the vitamins added after manufacture, there would be no nutritional value at all. Try weaning your son onto whole grain oatmeal. Or better yet, fresh eggs, cheese, or avocado make a nutritious breakfast.

It kind of depends on the cereal. Generally this is nutritious and it's certainly better than nothing or donuts. Read the nutrition panel on the side of the box. You don't want anything that has sugar as one of the first two ingredients. Try several new varieties over time and don't make a big thing of it. Good luck!

Well, it depends. Some cereals are nutritious, others are not. Look for cereals that are low in sugar and high in vitamins and fiber. Make sure the milk is low-fat.
