No, lyrcra is not water resistant. Typically, it doesn't absorb that much water, but it is not water resistant. You can wash lycra using the delicate cycle in your normal washing machine, and it will work well. Often people think that lycra is water resistant, because it has a shiny finish.

Well yes and no. Like anything else you can get Lycra material in a form of water resistant material but it's not something that usually comes water resistant. Anything can be bought to withstand water now-a-days. What they do is they coat it with a film which seals the air pockets of the material thus making it water resistant.

No it is not. The primary benefit of lycra is that it is extremely elastic and stretchable. Also, lycra does not suck up moisture like cotton does so it tends to "wick away" water and sweat. While it will not suck up water it also will not protect you from water if you get wet.
