Lanolin is a greasy substance from wool-bearing animals and can be helpful in soothing the soreness that can accompany breastfeeding. To properly apply lanolin, one does not need an huge application. First pat the area dry, apply a small "pea" size amount and massage into the skin.

Lanolin is excellent for treating sore and cracked nipples due to breastfeeding. Lanolin can be purchased as a cream/ointment from your local drug store. All you need to do is apply to your nipples liberally after nursing. You do not need to remove this product before nursing your child the next time.

Medical grade lanolin is used as a cream to soothe skin. In this form it is used by some on sore and cracked nipples. The best way for you to apply it would be to buy a form that is prepackaged for application. It will have a sort of brush on the lid for application.

Lanolin is good for sore nipples. It should be applied after patting the nipples dry. A small pea sized amount should be gently rubbed onto the sore area. Use lanolin to fill any cracks in the nipple. To prevent breast pads from sticking to the nipple area, lanolin can be applied to the pads also.
