flowers

Question by  lykmums (1)

Is it too late to prune mums when flower buds are showing?

I have several that had gotten away from me this spring. They are around 12" or better tall with buds starting to show.

It is probably too late. You can trim mums early on to keep them from getting too large and to keep their shape. But once buds start to show, if you trim them, you will trim off the flowers that would bloom.

If you prune now, you'll prune the current buds off and they'll either not bloom at all or won't bloom till later.
