Is it safe to have a massage if you have an injured 15/s1 disc?

I was given a gift card for a full body massage but am worried they will hurt my back.

Yes it is safe, with the following caveats. The person giving the massage needs to be properly trained , licensed, and certified. You need to inform the person giving the massage about your condition. While a good neck and shoulder rub won't bother this injury direct preassure to the area could be detrimental.

I wouldn't have the massage. The gift can wait till your back is better. You dont want to create more problems with your back. Just wait till your back is better then go.

You should never, EVER, resort to massage after a spinal injury without consulting your orthopedist as far as efficacy and safety. Ask your Orthopedist to prescribe follow-up care.

I would definitley ask your doctor. Personally I would not have a full body massage done yet. If the gift card doesn't have an early expiration date then wait. If it does call the company and explain the situation.

Massages are generally safe for people who have injured disks to have. However, don't expect it to be a treatment for your back pain.

Firstly, you have to tell about your disc injury when you go for the body massage, so that the person concerned can take special care while doing massage of your back. Soft and light massage on hips and back helps to ease the pain. Along with that application of moist heat and light stretching will give you much comfort.

Call up the massage parlor and ask if they have any rules regarding patients with injured backs, but depending on the type of massage, it could actually be beneficial and help you heal faster. This is not a hard and fast rule; different parlors have different rules and procedures, and you can also consult your doctor for his opinion.
