It is possible for this to happen due to bacteria getting moved when the crown in placed under the gum or by foods getting stuck in pockets.

Yes! Part of the process for placing a crown is to seat it just below the gumline. This process can stir up many bacteria that have been below the gums. Brush, floss and rinse with an antibacterial rinse and it should be better within two or three days.

I had the same problem, then one day my crown fell out and I found out where the smell was coming from. The crown smelled incredibly disgusting and the smell in my mouth immediately ended.

Stinky like adhesive? Possibly, but only for the day of the appointment. Stinky like putrid - no. Sounds like you might have a problem with periodontitis - unhealthy gums that catch and trap food and bacteria, and breed nasty smelling anaerobic bacteria. See your dentist or hygienist.

If your talking about like gum and certain foods sticking to your crowns, yes that does happen and it will not go away.

I have never heard of a dental crown being stinky. It could be the cement that the dentist used to put the crown on with, but I can't think of any other reason for it to stink.

I don't think this is normal for a well-seated crown. Probably you have a pocket that is catching food and not getting cleaned out when you brush.

Normally if there is a stinky smell coming from a dental crown ther is decay there and needs to be removed and cleaned out.
