That depends. Sometimes it can be a genetic defect in purebred dogs. It is also something that is occurring in designer breed dogs. It mostly will happen when a large dog and small dog are bred. This results in one of the jaws being larger than the other - creating an overbite.

Yes it is. Depending on the severity of the overbite a dog may require surgery or risk his teeth breaking the skin of the soft palette of his upper jaw.

Yes, overbites in dogs are considered to be genetic defects. It isn't a major one, but generally breeders will try to breed the trait out.

Yes, an overbite in a dog is a genetic defect if the dog is born with an overbite. A dog can damage his bite while it is growing such as while tugging on something. If you are concerned about your dogs bite there are dog orthodontists.
