Is air pressure the same thing as PSI?

If not, then how are they different?

No, air pressure is generally measured in standard atmospheric (equal to 1) or kPa (equal to 101.3). This measures the pressure in the air on earth, but not in any specific container. PSI (pounds per square inch) measure the pressure of air in any container, such as a canister or car tire.

Air pressure and PSI are not the same thing, but are related terms. Air pressure is the force of air molecules pushing against a surface. This force can be measured and expressed in a variety of units. PSI is the abbreviation for one of these measurements known as pounds per square inch.

PSI stands for "pounds per square inch" and is a measure of air pressure. In the same way that you could think of "miles per hour" being a measure of speed, or "inches" being a measure of distance, PSI is a way of saying how much air pressure there is at a specific place.
