This can be a treatment of choice if the steroid is injected right into the joint. Cortisone reduces pain and inflammation and may give good shoulder mobility.

A steroid shot is usually associated with swelling as it has an anti inflammatory effect on the body. If there are calcium deposits in a shoulder, it will treat any resulting swelling or pain caused by swelling, but will not treat the deposits.

That treatment is appropriate. Ice packs and physical therapy may be advisable before steroid shots. There are other treatments available before steroid shots are prescribed.
