Is a high school class ring a big deal?

For the most part, they are a waste of money, as after high school you normally won't wear it and sometimes the gemstone will fall out.

No, a high school class ring is not a big deal. People go on to further education and perhaps will purchase a ring representing their fraternity,sorority or profession. High school no longer represents the rite of passage to earning an adult income peopleand is not commemorated the way it was.

For some people, it's a memento of one of those good periods in life. Keep in mind, though, you won't wear it at all in college or after.

It all depends on the person. Personally, I think many class rings are ugly, however they can be a valuable reminder of high school days.
