When growing basil you should keep in mind they are not a direct sunlight plant. If your edges are brown you should check the acid level and how much sun they are getting.
Two possibilities immediately come to mind if the edges of basil leaves are turning brown: over-watering and over-fertilizing. Ensure you are providing the right amount of each.
Basil thrives in warm temperatures and sunlight and requires proper watering to ensure healthy growth. Insufficient watering or over-watering may cause the leaves to turn yellow or brown. Basil also requires adequate soil drainage. Turn the soil to assist with aeration and add amendments prior to planting basil.
