I had to disable the shifter to get it to shifted! I think it may be the transmission, but I have no idea.

The shifter has a solenoid that locks it in park and to release it, it has to have power from the break light switch.

If the shift select lever won't move out of Park you have a shifter release solenoid problem that is unrelated to the transmission. It's a problem in the column/counsel.
