You may want to have several family members and friends all go together and do an intervention. Dr. Phil has information about this, and so do drug abuse websites. Try Mothers Against Methamphetamine, Narcotics Anonymous, AA or Al-Anon. Do not threaten. Be loving, sincere and encouraging. They already feel like the world is against them.

It is best not to confront them when they are high or drunk and try to do it in a manner that is not accusing them of wrong doing.

The worst mistake a person can make when someone close to them is suffering from an addiction is to ignore it. It won't go away, and denial lends itself to enabling it. Let them know you still believe they are 'worth it' and see what they say.

Kindly, with love, with specific examples of their behavior, with concern for their well-being, with firmness, and with understanding for how difficult this is for that person.
