How should I go about celebrating El Grito?

This is Mexico's true Independence Day, September 16th. Attend fiestas throughout the week. Celebrate at El Pueblo National Historical Monument in Los Angeles. Wave a Mexican flag. Find a good Mexican restaurant and celebrate there or better yet, go to Mexico. The cities all meet at the town squares to celebrate with music, dancing and food.

The best and safest place to be on the night of September 15th is Monterrey, Nuevo Leon. The city provides a fireworks show in front of the capitol. Although the grounds are crowded, there is plenty of room to sit on the grass and take in the atomosphere. You can even purchase food and souvenirs from the street vendors.

You should do things that reflect Mexico's independence. You may want to shoot fireworks, or cook traditional Mexican food to celebrate.

The best way to celebrate would be to go to downtown Los Angeles and enjoy the ceremony on the city hall steps on Sept. 16
