In my 4.3L S10, I change the oil (synthetic blend) and filter every 5,000 miles, inspect the air filter every oil change and replace it every third, replace the change the spark plugs and fuel filter every 80,000 miles, the belt every 50,000 and the coolant every other year.

You should always do basic maintenance on any kind of motor. You should always change the oil at 3,000 miles and check your air filter and everything at that time. A good way to clean out your fuel system is to use Lucas fuel system cleaner and that also helps make the engine run better.

It depends on the mileage. The safest bet is to just follow the maintence schedule as stated in the owner's manual. If you don't have a manual then pick one up from a website like Ebay. Owner's manuals are usually pretty cheap.
