According to the legal definition of a cord of firewood in the US and Canada, a "cord" measures 4' wide x 4' high x 8' long and is 128 cubic feet in volume. Make sure, however, you confirm with the person.

The amount of firewood in a cord depends on how the wood is cut and stacked. If you have large unsplit logs that contain bark you should be getting about 128 cubic feet of firewood. Without bark tightly stacked should get you 85 to 110 cubic feet.

A 'face cord' is 4 feet by 8 feet and the logs can be of any length. A 'full cord' is 4 feet by 8 feet by 4 feet. In a full cord, the logs don't need to be 4 feet long. It can, for example, have 1 foot long logs stacked 4 deep.

The legal definition of a full/bush cord of firewood is equal to a volume of 128 cubic feet and measures 4' wide x 4' high x 8' long. There are others though, like a face/rick cord which 4' high x 8' tall, but only the width of the wood itself, 18". Be sure to ask what measure they're using.
