Horses has been my business for over 40 years. The cost of feed has went up each due to the cost of the the farmers doing business. There are so many varities of feed, from the top of the line to the more reasonable. On average the cost $1100.00 yearly.

It depends on the region. It costs about $15 a bag for pre packaged horse feed. On the West Coast it's hard to get hay so it costs around $15 a square bale. In the Midwest the same hay could cost you $5. The bottom line is horses are expensive.

Feed is probably a horseowner's biggest expense, but the cost will vary from place to place. If you live in an area where grass is available for much of the year, you can cut your costs slightly, but you will still need to price hay and grain for the winter months especially.
