How much area does one mulch bag cover?

Answer by  Scott2436 (104)

This depends on the size of the bag of mulch you have, but typically 25-50 square feet. It also depends on how thick you want the layer of mulch to be. For instance, if you want your mulch layer to be 4 inches thick, you will not get very much area coverage from one bag.

Depending on the size of the bag of mulch, one cubic yard covers an area that is about 160 square feet, with the layer of mulch being 2-inches in depth.

Most bags of mulch sold in stores like Home Depot, Lowes and other home improvement stores cover between two to three cubic feet.

I usually buy one bag per tree in my back yard so I would have to guess that it will cover about a 4 foot by 4 foot spot if you spead it a little thinner.
