How many telephone service providers are there in Mexico?

There used to be only a couple of landline providers in Mexico. The largest was Mexico Bell (an offshoot from the American Bell monopoly). Now however there are cell phone towers which are actually easier to install in rurual areas. Verizon, AT&T, Nextel... all have service in Mexico, the best coverage is in the larger cities.

According to the national survey there are 52+ phone services in Mexico. Mexico's telephone network is one of the most well-developed in Latin America. Penetration of land-lines never reached those of the US or western Europe, and are now never likely to as the introduction of mass-market mobile telephones in the mid 1990's.

Mexico has lots of telephone service providers. Most area will provide you with the same access you would get in the states. The main problem is the cost is high.
