There are approximately 1.9 million people living in Yucatan. The peninsula is divided into three different states with the capital of all of Yucatan being Merida. It was the eight state admitted to the Mexican federation in 1823. It contains 15,000 square miles in total area of the three states.

The population of Yucatan Mexico as of 2005 was 1,803,000. This is not the whole Yucatan Peninsula, just the state of Yucatan. There are 31 stated in Mexico, of which Yucatan is one. This state contains 108 municipalities.
