There are fourteen Jack Ryan novels written by Tom Clancy. In the end he is in pakistan helping with the war on terror. The first book was "The Hunt For Red October" published in 1984 and the last was "Dead or alive" published in 2010. They are popular with males aged 25-40.

As of 2010, Tom Clancy has written twelve "Jack Ryan" novels, with a thirteenth due out on December 7, 2010. Four novels have been made into movies with Alec Baldwin, Harrison Ford, and Ben Affleck playing the character of Ryan. The character of Ryan went into retirement.
