It doesn't take long. Before you start go to your doctor and tell him what you are going to be doing. Since you are no longer eating meat you will not be getting some of your vital vitamins and nutrients. The doctor can give you a list of vitamins and minerals that you should take.

Being a vegetarian is great, nut what he asked was about becoming a veterinarian, or an animal doctor.  add a comment

It takes eight years to become a veterinarian. Four years of undergraduate usually majoring in a pre-vet or biology degree. Since there are not many veterinarians schools, your undergraduate grades should be very competitive. After undergraduate, four more years of veterinarian school. Some veterinarian schools allow students to specialize in exotic pets, large animals, and regular animals.

Veterinary school involves earning a postbaccalaureate degree. AVMA accredited schools have 4 year degree plans. There are about thirty AVMA schools in the US, and admission is highly competitive. So start researching early!

There are 28 avma accredited schools. For each place at one, there were 18 applicants, compared to med school, where there were 5.  add a comment
