How long do you pop popcorn when cooking it on the stove top?

I want to make popcorn on the top of the stove.

Making popcorn on top of the stove is a little tricky. You must stay with it the whole time. When the kernels stop at about 2 to 3 seconds for last pop, than the popcorn is ready. Remove immediately and open slowly away from you to avoid any steam burn.

It should take 2-3 minutes once the popping starts. Keep shaking the pan until the popping slows, then remove it from the burner and wait for the popping to stop.

The time will vary depending on how fast your oil heats up. Just keep an eye, or an ear on the pan. You'll hear the kernels popping, and just take it off the heat when the popping has mostly stopped. If you leave it on the heat too long, you'll surely smell the bottom layer burning.

You will notice that the popcorn will be done when it touches the lid and you do not hear much popping anymore.
