How long do mufflers last?

The greatest threat to your muffler is where you usually park the car. If it is on the ground (not a driveway or garage) you will get about 3 years or less due to moisture collecting. When they start going, you will hear rumbling from inside the car or you could get down and look at it.

It depends on what your muffler is made of some materials are better than others. If it's made of aluminum steel and live in a place that doesn't salt the roads than it will last forever. However, if you live in a place averse conditions then 3- 7 years.

Mufflers will last for years, unless they rust or get ripped off accidently. A good sign your muffler is getting bad is your car will get much louder. If you drive a standard you will hear if the clamps holding it have loosened by the shimmey it makes. You can visibally see issues that may be wrong with the muffler.
