The longboard delineation has more to do with the height of the surfer, that is they must be 3 feet taller than the surfers height. In general 9 feet is the accepted size for a longboard.
Longboards are used by serious surfers and range in size from nine to ten feet. It is recommended that the less experienced surfers use smaller boards.
