How does the "welfare to work" program work?

The welfare to work initiative aims to support the long-term unemployed and enable them to find employment. The support can take the form of vocational training or education in basic skills. Advice is also available regarding interviews and completing applications and CVs. Many people have benefitted from the initiative but with the recession there are less job vacancies.

The program works to the extent that people in the program are interested in obtaining work. Not every participant in the program has this outlook, however, and even careful screening cannot provide certainty as to a participant's true motives. For those interested in a hand up, the program works.
