Speaking as a former sales rep, you must believe in your product and in your own ability to sell. You also need to know your product and find reasons why the customer should buy. You also must be self motivated and not rely on others to motivate you.

The key to being a successful sales person is to learn how to upsell really well. If you can get each customer to buy just one more item your sales will get a lot better. Explain why they need an extra item and see what happens.

The most important thing to boost sales is to be people-friendly. Be very talkative, complimentary, and persuasive. Find things you have in common with your customer and use them.

Be enthusiastic about the product itself! If you're happy about what you're selling, I'll want to buy it. Also, make them feel that they have the power to buy, don't let them get away with 'well I gotta ask my wife,' who makes the decisions in the marriage anyway..?

First of all you need to be knowledgeable and passionate about the products you are selling. Don't try to sell a product you don't know or like.

You need to make sure that you know almost everything there is to know about what you are selling. You have to know how to answer almost any question that people are going to have about your product.
