The wording depends on whether you are writing within the context of a business matter, social matter or with regard to to an organization. It depends on whether you are inviting the individual to join you for the first time, or if you are following up a visit or membership.

A letter of greeting should be formatted basically as a personal letter. While it doesn't need to be fancy, considering the recipient's relationship will help decide what salutations to use.

Many people write greeting letters focusing on themselves; every sentence begins with I. You want to tell people about yourself and which is a purpose of this letter, you should also write about your desire to be helpful. The letter should give the reader a sense that you are other-oriented rather than self-centered.
