How do you use thread to get a ring off your finger?

You need string and soap or grease or some kind. Soap or grease the finger with the ring on it. Then wrap the string tightly around the finger on the side of the ring toward the finger's tip. The soap/grease makes the finger and string slippery, and the string compresses the flesh, so the ring will slip off.

You don't use thread as it will break. Use waxed dental floss, instead. You begin by wrapping the waxed dental floss in "rounds" going down your finger, then slip through the ring. Apply some vegetable oil to the finger to make it really slick, then start pulling. Hopefully, the ring will start following the coils and come off.

I wouldn't suggest using thread. If the ring is already tight you may damage your finger. I suggest using dish soap to get it off.
