Much like tuning a steel guitar. Use a tool like a piano players wrench at the end to tighten the strings. I like to start in the middle and work my way to the outer strings, alternating side to side. Use an electronic tuner.
It's a very tough job that can't be handled by new students. You have to make sure that you distribute the tensions evenly on the instrument. Make sure the bridges on the string are even.
