Better time to transplant lily of the valley is later summer of the early fall. Early morning sunlight is fine. Till the soil to the depth of 10 to 12 inches. Place the plant in new location and soil down with your hands. Water throughly until plants are established. After transplanting they will make a strong root system and bloom.

Transplanting in late summer/early fall will provide hardier plants and more blooms. Prepare the new location by tilling to 12" and enriching with very rich organic material. Dig under the plant with a sharp spade, lift and divide by gently disentangling the roots. Plant, tamp down soil, keep well moistened.

Doing this in fall will produce more blooms the next year. Select a shady location with no direct sun and dig a hole approximately 12" deep. Remove plant and roots carefully shaking gently to loosen dirt. Place in prepared hole and firm soil around plant then water thoroughly. Before the ground freezes, mulch plant with leaves.

It is better to transplant in late summer, or early fall in shady or partially shady area. The location must be tilted to a depth of 10 to 12 inches.
