How do you stop toddlers from banging their heads?

I worry it will do permanent damage.

It is really hard to stop a toddler from banging his head if he really wants to. You can put him/her in timeout for a few minutes every time he/she does it, take away a treat or if you are still worried, put a helmet on him/her.

Make eye contact with the child and say "no". Show them and explain what their head is for and that it is "not for banging". Show your child how to play music and dance to better use their energy. If the problem persists have them evaluated by a Pediatrician to see why they may have developed this habit.

Try to encourage another form of soothing like offering a snuggly, soft music, white noise or something to suck on.
