How do you stain a fence?

Prepare the fence by cleaning and getting rid of any mildew, dirt, etc. Stir stain, apply without thinning. Apply when >50 degrees F and rain isn't expected within 24 hours.

Paint stain on with a brush, wipe off with a cloth. For a fence, I would use a colored urethane instead of a stain; you just paint on 2 coats

Go to your local home depot and get a stain that is used for outdoors and use a paint brush and stain it.
