There are several clues to find out if your boyfriend desires you merely as a "trophy" girlfriend. He may be overly controlling as to what you wear, your hairstyle, your weight, and your makeup. He will care much more about how you look while around others than how he is treating you, being unkind and demanding about it.

Compare how he treats you when you're alone to when you're with other people. If he treats you the same, you're probably not a trophy. But if he puts you up on a pedestal around other people and barely pays attention while you're alone together, trophy girlfriend is a possibility.

This type of person is normally very insecure and thinks that a beautiful or popular girlfriend will boost his image and have other guys jealous of him. If he's particular about the way you look to the point where he tells you what to wear, then he's one of them!

Look at how your boyfriend treats you. When you are with friends, does he ignore or belittle you in an attempt to prove that you are just an object, or is he as considerate to you as when you are alone together? Does he take a genuine interest in you, or just try to pacify you?
