There is a product call Goo Gone that works wonders. You should pour it all over the rubber cement, let it sit for at least 5 iminutes, maybe longer if there's a thick patch, and then wipe it off with a damp wash rag. You will want to spot test first on an inconspicuous area.

They have this thing called rubber cement pick-up. It's specifically aimed towards getting stinky glue off of anything you peel like a bumper stick on a car.

Remove as much of the rubber cement as possible by scraping the area with a butter knife. Then use paper towel to soak up the remaining liquid.

Use paint thinner or nail polish remover. The acetone will eat away at the rubber cement. Just don't put too much on the carpet at one time or it could remove the color from your carpet. Clean it with regular carpet cleaner afterwards.

Mix vinegar with detergent and wipe with a terry cloth towel. If that does not work you can try a dry cleaner solution.
