How do you get rid of yeast infections in dogs?

Answer by  hellennoir (68)

Yeast infections most commonly occur in the dog's ears. If it's not a recurring infection, a simple cleaning of the ear canal will take care of the infection. Dogs with chronic yeast infection in their ears will need ear-drying medicines, which you can get from your vet.

You can get antifungal creams and antibiotics from your vet to treat yeast infections, but make sure you bring your dog into the vet to make sure that's the problem.

There are oral treatments, shampoos, and spot treatments that can get rid of yeast infections in dogs. Mixtures of vinegar and water can be used as a spot treatment but know that your dog will have a distinct vinegar smell after the treatment is used. I would also recommend taking your dog to see your veterinarian.

It depends on where the yeast infection is located. There are shampoos available for skin infections, ear medications for the ear canal, or pills if the infection is severe and not going away. All of these medications have potential side effects and not all are effective against every infection. You should contact a veterinarian for further information.

You will have to take it to the vet and they will run some tests on it and they will then give you some antibiotic for it that will clear it up they will also probably gove you some ream for it so that once you get rid of it the dog won't get it back right away.

Yeast infections are caused by an organism that is normally present in "healthy" numbers in dogs, but for various reasons, can multiply too quickly and become a health problem. There are numerous possible causes, such as food allergies, that should be evaluated and treated by a licensed veterinarian.
