The odor is caused by bacteria that thrives because of your feet sweating in the shoe. Activated charcoal will absorb the excess moisture, and a disinfectant spray like Lysol and a good airing out will get rid of the odor. If possible, don't wear the same shoes everyday.

A tried and true cure is baking soda, or talcum powder, or just by sitting them outside in the open air for at least eight to 24 hrs.

There are many ways to get rid of shoe odor. A majority of people either use a sort of spray, maybe a powder or a simple changing of the soles. Another possible way is to maybe get it professionally cleaned so that it can be as new!. I wouldn't recommend you putting in the washing machine though.

Wash your shoes in the washing machine if at all possible. You can also use some type of shoe cleaner and try some febreeze to neutralize the smell. There is also an odor eater product out there that may work. to prevent the odor in the first place apply a foot powder to your feet daily.
