The concentrated acid is manufactured in a process called the Contact process. The sulfur VI oxide is dissolved in concentrated sulfuric acid to form an oily mixture called oleum.The gas is not dissolved in water because it form an acid spray mist which is dangerous. The acid is the diluted with water to 98% concentration.
