Typically you replace the entire unit. However, if you can determine the component that is broken you might be able to find replacement parts on the Internet and fix the component. Ensure the electrical connections and service are properly functioning first before assuming a component failure.

If you need to replace the switch remove the old one and rewire the new one. The low position gets the red wire. The high position gets the blue wire and the off switch is disconnected. The replacement switch should come with a wiring diagram.

If you are wanting to fix this type of fan then you will need to take it apart. Next you will need to find the problem and be able to fix it.
