The problem with this is you will have to remove some singles to expose the ridgeline. Then cut an extension and brace into place. Then cover the new space with planks, then tar paper, then finally shingles.

First, how much space are you connecting? Will you be adding an architectural addition as well, such as a carport or breezeway? Simply extending the roofline often ends up looking like an afterthought (and an eyesore). You may be better off considering a dramatic peak instead of a flush line between existing structure and the garage.

First measure out your expansion space. Make sure you have enough room planned out. Make sure you have all the proper permits before you begin. Erect supports for where your roof will end for the extension. Now just build it out as an add on.
