How do you do a book report on non-fiction?

You can't really comment on the plot and characters.

I suggest you start by giving a succint overview of what the book is about, along with maybe some background info on the author, and maybe some historical context. Then you have to try to roughly divide the book in sections, to make the outline more obvious, and summarize and comment each section.

You simply discuss what the book is about. Comment on the descriptions used, the topic of the book, and any interesting points.
