Japanese maples need to be potted in very porous and well drained potting soil. Make sure to fertilize them when they have growth spurts, usually in March, April and July.
Japanese maples should have good sunlight and protection from high winds and harsh conditions. If you are in a cold climate, keep it close to the house.
