The first step to having an abnormal growth identified is to take the dog to the veterinarian for an evaluation. The veterinarian may be able to identify the growth by sight, but may also take skin scrapings or remove part of the growth for a biopsy. Internal growths may be needle biopsied.

It depends on where the growth is. Animal doctors offer pretty much the same diagnostic tests as human doctors so x-rays for one, is a vital tool.An abnormal growth can sometimes be felt and the doctor will take his findings from there. Maybe bloodwork and other scan types will be used.

Identifying abnormal growths on dogs is done first by physical examination by your vet, and if necessary the vet can do a biopsy.

When my pitbull/greyhound mix got older he started getting lumps on his body. I was worried they might be cancer so I took him to the vet. The vet felt them and told me that they were fatty deposits that had formed. Because they moved when touched by the hand he was able to tell they were not serious.

They are identified through vet exams where the growth is seen as a small hairless growth protruding from the animals skin and is felt as a hardened lump-like abraison.

It is visual. You can see how your dog is, and growths are self-evident. They may be immediately diagnosed, or may require biopsy- have your dog checked for cancer.

most of the time they will just try and identify them by looking at them and if they are really unsure of it they will take a culture and send it away for a diagnosis.
