The ideas for reality shows probably come from real life situations that are taken to new extremes or which include unplanned possibilities or circumstances.

There are two basic ways to get the ideas. Some ideas are brought in and pitchd by outside sources, either a company looking to sell the idea they came up with or an individual hoping their idea will make it on TV. Also, networks have people on payroll whose sole job is to come up with new program ideas together.
