Most kids like the extreme of things and to have a heavy piggy bank is pretty neat. Kids like to see if they can fill the bank up and because it's a piggy they are in a way "feeding" it.

That's why you give them an allowance. Have them divide their money into a few piles. Some to save, some to spend and if you wish, some to charity. This will give your child a good sense of saving money. If they spend it all they have no more.
