To paint a red brick exterior first use a primer. A sprayer will be quicker, but you can use a roller and brush. Then choose what ever color exterior paint you want, and spray it on.

Get ready to work. As with all "tricky" surfaces, preparation equals success. Clean bricks thoroughly. Then, apply a specialized outdoor brick primer. Plan to buy a lot. Bricks must be completely coated with primer before painting, and because brick absorbs, you may need several coats. Experts recommend cleaning with a pressure washer on low, and priming/painting with a paint sprayer.

First make sure the substrate is clean and dry. Second prime using a block filler. Third paint using an exterior paint in your choice of color.

Choose a high quality exterior paint. Make sure the brick is clean and dry and cracks and holes have been filled.
