How do I wire a kill switch on my go-cart?

A kill switch shuts off the ignition. Small engine ignition consists of a coil, a magnet in the flywheel, and a set of points with a condenser located behind the flywheel under a cover. Attach a wire to the condensor lead and route it to the kill switch. Wire the other switch lead to the metal frame.

Typically you just install a toggle switch in the ignition wire running into the coil. When on it allow the ignition to fire but breaks the circuit when off. Just be sure to properly ground the switch to prevent shock or worse a fire.

Installing a kill switch is fairly simple. Run a jump wire to a toogle, within reach, and wire it to the ignition or ground. When it's on you'll have spark and when you shut it off it will kill the engine.

find the coil or magneto wire and place an inline switch in, you only need to seperate one wire to break the circuit and the engine will stop. is this to prevent theft or to prevent a run away go kart?
