If you had an antenna you could. However in a lot of area there are very few channel to watch. People like to have a variety of channels with cable.

Well to watch regular tv with no cable well its is literaaly impossible to watch regular tv with no cable and yes today you get mant set up box and with that the tv may work without cable and yes without cable you can watch only Doordarshan channel.
